According to the World Health Organization (WHO), malaria is a life threatening disease caused by parasites that are transmitted to people through mosquitoes. In 2018, there was an estimated 228 million cases of malaria worldwide and 405,000 related deaths in the same period. Children aged 5 years and below were the most vulnerable group affected by malaria and in 2018, they accounted for 67% of all deaths worldwide. Of this statistic, Africa was home to 93% of all malaria cases and 94% of malaria deaths. In looking at this problem, the promoters found a market opportunity to offer a cost effective malaria prevention solution targeting children who are the most vulnerable demographic outlined in the aforementioned paragraph.
The product target audience is primarily Mothers, as they are largely the key decision makers or influencers when it comes to the health and wellbeing of the children in the household. Brian Moran, a famous writer is reported to have said that “people will always pay a premium to solve a specific problem”. In this case, the problem is sickness resulting from mosquito bites.
